The photographer from Our365 was awesome.  She worked wonders with a crabby Elisabeth and produced some beautiful pictures.  If you’re interested in seeing them, feel free to click the link.

Libbie Comes Home February 11, 2012

Filed under: Cincinnati — lbkasten @ 6:52 pm

So, now I know how my patients feel when I say they can go home at 6am during rounds and the discharge finally occurs at noon.   Once we got our walking papers the friendly transport official couldn’t get us downstairs fast enough.  Libbie was bundled in her outfit (pictured below) and we headed for home. Upon arrival, little sister settled in to mommy”s lap for a bottle while big sister helped.  It’s wonderful being home, and thanks to everyone for the outpouring of love and prayers we received throughout this beautiful process.

Baby Libbie is here!!!!!!!! February 10, 2012

So, after waiting all day for progress, Baby Libbie got bored and just dropped on down.  Mommy did a fantastic job with the delivery!  We are so blessed to have a beautiful, healthy baby girl.  Weight 7 pounds 12 ounces (Daddy was right on the money).  Length is pending (Daddy has 20.5″).  Here’s a quick picture of mommy and baby.  Thanks to everyone for their support and prayers.

Holding Pattern February 10, 2012

Must be a weather delay.  We did not expect a prolonged induction with the second daughter, but the best laid plans…  In the meantime, we’re enjoying some popsicles and an episode of ‘Chopped’.  Mommy and baby continue to do well, so please keep your prayers coming.

7th Inning Stretch February 9, 2012

Although I’m not a huge baseball fan, I am a huge Michael Lewis fan (Liar’s Poker and The Big Short).  I’ve been reading his book, Moneyball, while Lindsey has steadily become more uncomfortable.  The time finally came for an epidural, which was expertly placed in less time than it’s taken me to craft this post.  The contractions continue, but mommy’s pain does not.  The improvement of anesthesia is the single greatest medical achievement in the past 50 years, making possible many more procedures with better patient safety profile and satisfaction.  Here’s to the safe, final progression of labor and birth of our daughter.

Water Break February 9, 2012

Filed under: Cincinnati — lbkasten @ 7:52 pm

After seeing minimal progress on max pitocin, Lindsey went for a leisurely walk around the L&D department.  The decision was made to speed this process along with breakage of her ‘water’.  Mommy and baby continue to do well.  Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Marathon, not a sprint February 9, 2012

Mommy is a few hours into her pitocin drip and doing well.  Contractions are about 2.5 minutes apart, with pain requiring controlled breathing but not yet an epidural.  Mommy and Libbie’s vital signs look good.  While we wait, here are some pictures of mommy and her room.

Induction, take two. February 9, 2012

Filed under: Cincinnati — lbkasten @ 2:01 pm

For those keeping score, this is our second induction.  Maybe mommy and daddy are destined to produce stubborn children.  After an early morning, we are now settled in at Good Samaritan Hospital anxiously awaiting the birth of Elisabeth Katherine.  The pitocin has started to kick in and mommy is attempting to rest.  Next stop should be the gift of anesthesia via epidural.  Please pray for mommy and Libbie.
